Joel & Aleesha's Wedding
The Farm
Colinton Country Farm
This was the first and only place we visited when we looking at wedding venues, and from the moment we arrived, we just knew.
As you’ll see for yourselves on the drive out, it feels like a world completely removed from the suburban lives we come from. By the time you turn onto Grieves Road and make your way along the 8km track to the property, it already feels like you’re heading somewhere truly special.
First Impressions
When we arrived, the whole Grieves family was out and about in the sheds, with the kind of dirt on their clothes that I don’t think we could manage to get on ours even if we tried. Everyone welcomed us with the friendliest hello, and there was Sherree — the mumma hen of the family — surrounded by her three grandkids, who stayed with us throughout the tour.
We quickly fell in love with the venue itself, but we also loved how easy Sherree was to talk to and get along with. There was something about the place that felt real, relaxed, and full of heart.
On the drive home, we kept saying the same thing — this place felt like something out of our dreams.
The Family
During our visit, the kids really stood out to us. They weren’t like suburban kids — they were tough, grounded, and clearly being raised with a different kind of strength, strong values, and a real love for their land and their Gigi.
As we got to know more about the family, we learnt that Sherree’s husband’s family has owned this 12,000-acre farm for five generations, and that even the road itself is named after them.
That history, that connection to the land, and the way the whole family lives and works together made the property feel even more meaningful to us.
Why It Matters
Times are tough for farmers. Between drought, rates, diesel, feed, chemicals, and the endless cost of keeping a property running, it can feel never-ending. The Grieves family have opened this venue as another source of income to help support the farm and keep it going.
That meant a lot to us.
Yes, we fell in love with the beauty of this place, but it also felt good knowing that by celebrating here, our money was going towards something real — a family, a home, and a way of life that deserves to be respected and supported, even if only in a small way.
We wanted to include this section on our website so that when you celebrate with us here, you know whose land you are on and why this place means so much to us. We hope you’ll respect it with us too.
Thank you to the Grieves family for welcoming us onto your beautiful home.
